Payment links with Mollie
A payment link lets a customer pay without a webshop, without an invoice and without waiting for a bank transfer. This page explains how it works, which types of links exist and what you can configure.

Sending an invoice and waiting for payment works until you do it often. The customer has to retype the details, the payment takes days and you have to keep track of who has paid. A payment link works differently: the customer clicks, picks a payment method and pays.
What is a payment link
A payment link is a web address that leads to a payment page. You don't need a webshop or till system for it. You send the link to the customer, who pays straight away using the methods your Mollie account offers, such as iDEAL.
That makes the link useful where a webshop doesn't fit: in a quote email, in a chat message, in a reminder for an outstanding payment or on a flyer.
Types of payment links
A payment link isn't only for one-off payments. In RCUR you pick the type that fits the situation.
| Type | What it does |
|---|---|
| One-off payment | The customer pays once |
| Subscription (Basic or Advanced) | Starts a subscription after a first payment |
| Order form | A form for selling products or services |
| One-off direct debit | Asks for the customer's IBAN for a one-off collection |
| Mandate | Adds a mandate after the payment |
| Approval | The subscription starts automatically once the customer agrees |
Which types you see depends on your plan and on what your Mollie account supports. For links that result in a direct debit or mandate, your Mollie account must be able to process recurring payments.
What you can configure
RCUR builds a number of options around it, spread across the plans.
From Starter (€10 a month): create payment links, open-amount links, manage customers and receive payments through Mollie.
From Advanced (€15): add attachments to a link, set your own redirect URL for after payment, use choice links and send emails from RCUR.
From Expert (€24): a branded checkout with your colours and logo, links without an expiry date, links that can be used several times and receiving orders.
Pick the plan based on what you need. If you only occasionally want someone to pay, Starter is enough.
Measuring how a link performs
The payment link report shows where customers drop off. Per link, over the last 30, 90 or 365 days, you see:
- how often the payment page was opened;
- how many payments were started, for example by choosing a payment method;
- how many payments were completed and what the revenue is;
- per payment method how many payments were started and completed, so you can see whether a method often fails.
A visitor counts once per day per link. Search engines, link previews and other bots don't count, and nothing about the visitor is stored.
Payment link and subscription
If the customer starts a subscription through the link, they also give the authorisation for the next payments with the first one. After that RCUR collects automatically, without you sending a new link. How that works is covered on the page about Mollie subscriptions.
If a later direct debit fails, the payment link is also how you fix it. You send the customer a link, they pay after all and the claim is covered. There's more on that under following up failed direct debits.
How to create one
- Create an account and connect your Mollie account.
- Create a payment link and choose the type that fits.
- Send the link to your customer, from RCUR or through a channel of your choice.
- The customer pays and you see the payment in your overview and in the payment link report.
You can try it free for 7 days, no credit card needed. RCUR charges no per-transaction fees and no percentage of your revenue.
Frequently asked questions
What is a payment link?
A payment link is a URL pointing to a payment page. You send it to your customer by email, WhatsApp or any other channel, and they pay straight away. You don't need a webshop for it.
Can I start a subscription with a payment link?
Yes. With RCUR a payment link can start a subscription after a first payment. The customer also gives the mandate for the follow-up payments, so RCUR then collects automatically.
Which types of payment links are there?
A one-off payment, a subscription (Basic or Advanced) that starts after a first payment, an order form for products or services, a one-off direct debit where you ask for the customer's IBAN, a link that adds a mandate after payment, and a link for subscription approval. Which ones you see depends on your plan and your Mollie account.
Do I need my own Mollie account?
Yes. Payments run through your own Mollie account, so the money goes straight from your customer to you. RCUR charges no per-transaction fees; Mollie does charge its usual transaction fees.
Can I see how well a payment link performs?
Yes. The payment link report shows, per link, how often the payment page was visited, how many payments were started and how many were paid, plus the revenue. It also shows which payment method often fails.
Can I show the payment page in my own style?
Yes. From the Expert plan you customise the checkout with your own colours and logo, so the customer sees a page that fits your business.
